Extraordinary homes: Ricardo Bofill’s house-workshop

septimo

We present you the wonderful house-workshop of the architect Ricardo Bofill. It is an old cement factory in Sant Just Desvern, next to Barcelona. Bofill, shocked by how that factory contaminated Barcelona’s sky with its smoke, bought it with the aim of transforming that dirty space into something magical. He managed to turn that black factory into a natural space full of green plants that grow free throughout the whole structure, this being not only his home but also his workshop.

Bofill mixes a brutalist vision with a romantic one and bases the space on structures that have been left there only by a mere aesthetic question. In addition, it is organized by mental or psychological activities more than by its functionality, thus breaking the model of a typical house. Its distribution is suitable for different moods.
